This article will discuss the challenges you may face when attemting to connect your Android Phone wirelessly to our IMI-1000.
While Apple released their wireless implementation of CarPlay back in 2016, Android were mucbh later to the wireless party and as such, there are some “quirks” to getting your Android phone wirelessly connected for Android auto use.
On top of wireless Android Auto being a less mature concept than CarPlay, Android have many more variables as Android Auto is avaiable on many different manufacturers phones – this makes it more of a challenge for Android to make it “simple”.
Once you have Android Auto wireless set up, you won’t have to do this again – so if when connecting to the IMI-1000 over bluetooth Android Auto doesn’t boot up automatically you will need to run through the following steps and checks;
IMPORTANT! Before attempting to connect wireless AA, ensure your IMI-1000 has “WIRELESS ANDROID AUTO” enabled in the Factory menu – guidance to enable this is found in the setup instructions for your IMI-1000
- Make sure your phone is compatible with Android Auto Wireless
Not all phones are compaitble with Android Auto Wireless, so make sure your is compatible
2. Update all Apps on your phone
You will need to update all of the apps on your phone, including the android auto app and make sure it is the latest version
3. Enable Developer Settings and set up USB Debugging and Wireless Projection
Enable development settings in the Android Auto app by opening the app, tap settings, scrol down until you see “version,” and then tap on “version” 10 times.
Enter Development Settings >> Select “show wireless projection option” >> Reboot your phone.
Google also advise the following;
Important: The first time that you connect your phone to the car, you’re required to pair your phone and car via Bluetooth. For best results, keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location Services turned on during setup. Make sure that your car is in park (P) and allow time to set up Android Auto before you start your drive.
